Southern Boobook Owl Oversees Proceedings

In the wattle outside my bedroom window, a southern boobook owl has taken up residence. I couldn’t believe my good fortune when I first saw him there about a week ago. He sleeps by day and goes off hunting at night but is there again as I getup.

I have been trying to get a photo of him but he is well hidden amongst the branches. This is in the same week as we have had a whale and its calf in the Derwent and a pod of dolphins outside my office window. It feels so good to enjoy the wonders of nature amidst the chaos in the world.

  1. I am jealous as i live at Hinsby beach and missed seeing the whale and her calf however i can console myself that the Swift parrots will again soon be raucously inhabiting the Eucalyptus around the house!

  2. Wow, I am envious. I would love an owl in our garden. A Powerful Owl stayed in a friend’s tree for a while and I was lucky enough to see it. Magnificent.
