A lovely spring walk

Clivias are a joy to behold as massed plantings and they are blooming to their hearts content in the Sydney Gardens at the moment.

I still have had little success with mine in Hobart and I am beginning to think that I love them too much. It seems that the people who have the most success do very little to look after them and leave them alone, so a bit of tough love seems necessary.

Apart from the clivias, the spring display is terrific. There is a spring walk full of blossom and bulbs as well as azaleas and the people are turning out in droves to just enjoy the beauty of it all.

When so many people have no garden at home or are subject to water restrictions, it is such a gift to the community to have the Gardens full of colour, luscious growth and happiness.

There is also an excellent Gardens shop with a good selection of gardening books, flora and fauna books, cards and prints. Jewellery is good too. I did come home with a print of a boobook owl to make my resident owl feel more at home.

  1. Clivias despite the initial expense are brilliant. I have underplanted a cherry plum tree with them, and they do brilliantly, and require about the same level of care as cymbidiumn orchids i.e none. Sydney does gardens so well.
