Floriade is a wonderful spring flower festival in Canberra that draws great crowds from all over Australia. I love it as the massed plantings are a total indulgence of the senses. Every variety of tulip seems to be there from the classic, to the fringed edges, from the plain to the variegated in colour, from the short to the tall.

The plantings of tulips are interspersed with pansies, hyacinths and ranuculas which carries and intensifies the colour through the landscape. The photos tell the story as the community turns out in force to enjoy a celebration of spring.

Slightly out of character with the flower show was the zebra sculptures, but who cares if a few zebras get mixed up with the tulips. Not to mention the gnomes!
