Oreganos a great success as ground cover

Earlier this year as part of the plan to maximise the number of edible plants in the garden, I planted five different varieties of oregano to form a ground cover and it has been a great success.

All these varieties are useful for cooking especially the Greek and Italian ones but they look good as they begin to grow into each other.

I have done the same for thymes but the oreganos seem more vigorous and may well overgrow the thymes but never mind it looks and smells great.

  1. another excellent idea…we have built a new house and so have lots of open ground courtesy of the building process…a few types of oregano as ground cover seems to me like an great idea…you mentioned thyme, any other suggestions for other types of edible ground covers?

I live in the Perth hills and have heavy clay and rock mainly, so hardy plants are best suited here:)
